My Hypnosis for Weight loss Story
A few years ago I became interested in hypnosis after hearing friends and patients talk about the funny
things a local stage hypnotist would get people to do on stage in front of a crowd. It occurred to me that if
the hypnotist could get people to do stuff like dance around like a chicken if front of a crowd of people, why
couldn’t they get people to do the things necessary to lose weight or exercise more. Because lets face
it. Weight loss isn’t rocket science. You simply need to use up more calories than you take
in. The problem is, its just so %*&## hard to do!! I mean, I know what to do to lose weight
and you probably do too. It’s just so darn hard to make yourself do it!!
So being ignorant of hypnosis, I called a couple of local hypnotists and starting asking if they helped
people to change behavior. They told me that hypnosis is used all the time for a multitude of things
including: salespeople who want to sell more, athletes who want to perform better, people who
want to quit smoking and … you guessed it, people who want to lose weight. According to hypnosis
experts, if there is a behaivor you want to change in your life hypnosis can probably help. It can even help
you have a better love life!
One of the hypnotist I called offered to give me an introductory session for free, (I guess thats one of the
perks of all those years of school) I thought that was very nice and it has turned out well for both of us as
I now occasionally recommend for my patients to go see her. Let me tell about my experience
though.
I wasn't nervous or scared but I was very curious about what I might experience. To make a long story short it
was interesting to say the least. I really didn’t have any particular issues to work on so she
basically gave me a demonstration of what it is like to be hypnotized. The process itself was very relaxing.
As a matter of fact, part of the process of being hypnotized involves the therapist guiding you you through a
process to achieve a deep state of relaxation. The process began with me visualizing relaxing scenes and actively
relaxing various areas of my body. It was pleasant but I didn't really feel hypnotized. To be honest I really
wasn't to impressed at first. I kept expecting something profound to happen. As the
session progressed though, she reached a point in the process where she began counting down from ten suggesting
deeper and deeper relaxation at each numeral. It was just like in the movies. Like I
said it was all well and good but when she reached three I seriously thought it was really no big deal. I
felt no different other than relaxed.
But then between three and one the weirdest thing happened. It was almost as if my brain and body
disconnected but not in a bad way. All of the random thoughts we all have in our brain all the time
faded away. It was like my brain was 100% uncluttered
by any extraneous thought. My mind became 100% focused on the task at hand. I had never
experienced that level of mental focus before and even now can only achieve that level of focus
throught hypnosis. It was very cool. The session lasted about
40 minutes but only felt like 20. All in all it was a very interesting experience. I didn't go back
because I didn't feel like spending 85 bucks a session but I have since found good success with online
downloadable programs.
